Columbus’s journey to the Caribbean marked a reconnection with the Arawak people, where the essence of YUKAHU—creation itself—was embodied. YUKA, tied to the earth through the ritual of urinating in the soil, symbolized renewal and the cycle of life. This deep connection to creation was forcibly disrupted through colonization, just as the Arawak and Sephardic Jews faced forced conversions—Arawak under European rule and Sephardic Jews during the Spanish Civil War—seeking refuge in Latin America to preserve their heritage.

In the wild dance of Yare, rooted in the celebration of Corpus Christi, light and darkness intertwine in a vibrant struggle. With their chaotic movements, reflect the internal battles we face, embodying the conflict between the sacred and the profane that resides in all of us. This clash of forces mirrors the ancient tension between Guanare and Coromoto, where two worlds—indigenous and imposed—met and collided. Coromoto, the patron saint, symbolizes the foreign spiritual system that sought to replace the indigenous, yet the spirit of Guanare resisted, holding its ground against the weight of colonialism.
